Apparently we’re the early favorite

The fine folks over at Rush the Court have compiled a list of all the way too early polls media outlets are putting out today while the nation still cares about college basketball. Because, really, who cares in June (when these might actually be somewhat accurate)? Regardless, here’s what he’s got so far and where each poll picks the Jayhawks…
NBC: #1
Luke Winn/CNNSI: #2
Pete Thamel/NY Times: #10
Chicago Tribune: #1
Dick Vitale: #1
Aggregate: #1
I have to say, as much as I considered us a major player if Cole and Sherron return, I never would have labeled us the favorite. But when you look at the other teams in the discussion it’s pretty easy to make that argument. If someone could relay this information to our two possible draftees, that would be fabulous.

You can add Rivals to the list of sources naming us the favorite in their Top 25. Other Big XII schools listed are Texas at #9 and K-State at #24.

So Luke Winn has MU at #15, and no one else even acknowledges them? What the hell?!?!? These people are racist! #8 in the final rankings! MU fans demand respect, NOW!
In all seriousness, I think people might be sleeping on the Tigers a bit. They lose Lyons, Carroll and Lawrence, all big pieces to be sure. But the team that was on the floor when they were trying to come back against UConn will all be there next year. I don’t know about the incoming class, but they do have a lot of guys back from a decent team.
Finally, I checked the MU athletic site to make sure I wasn’t leaving any seniors out (who knew Anderson, Jr. was a senior?). Their FanStore is selling all kinds of different Elite Eight shirts and to top it off, a print commemorating an undefeated home season. Are you freaking kidding me? Maybe having a picture of a full Mizzou Arena – the rarity that it is – is worth paying $35.
