Truly wonderful work by topekahawk. As for Steele, well…I just don’t know what to say. Suffice it to say that if he turns out to be right on that, I’ll probably have to just tip my cap and take everything he writes from now on as absolute truth.

Also, I’m sure everyone here has seen this, but that Colorado pick took a blow this week as they’re soon to lose Josh Smith and Ryan Wallace. Then again, Hawkins did guarantee 10 wins.

KU’s stadium capacity is 50,071.
Home Attendance Averages
2002: 36,083

KU has sold 40,000 season tickets (@ $300 ea. for 6 games) as of May 2009, which is about 6,000 more than this time last year. There are NO single game tickets for sale through the university. The only way to purchase tickets to the OU game or the NU game through the university will be through a 3-game $150 ticket package. These will not be premium seats. They will be seats with poor sightlines that are the last to sell.

Tim, the better angle on the story would be how KU continues to have increasing record numbers of season ticket sales in spite of the following factors:
1. A wobbly economy
2. KU basketball season tickets cost $1,155 each plus $346.50 for parking and are consistently selling out.

These packages are how minor league baseball teams are going when they have an MLB exhibition game…and SURPRISE! They sell.

Memphis Redbirds did this when the Cardinals came to town the weekend before the season started. MiLB has great attendance numbers, and is probably the most innovative sport as far as getting asses in seats. They created the package idea, and it’s worked.

Colorado basketball has been doing this for a few years. You can’t buy the KU game there without buying an additional game. This is a good idea.

Ticket packages are the way to go right now. Most people can’t go to (or aren’t interested in) all games.

And props to your bastard of an AD of actually having the idea of blocking out Oklahoma and Nub fans. I hate Lew, but this is a good idea.

I like it, playing hardball with Nebraska and Oklahoma fans. At least if they want to try and pack the stadium, they’ll have to pay extra for it. You could call it conniving and manipulative, but that’s exactly what I want from the front office.
