Have Mercy

This one goes out to our friends at Texas, who like us, deserve to enjoy a very Happy Mullet Wednesday!

Who could say no to that?

Scipio, being the basterd that he is, put a full post together looking at our team and how Texas matches up. This might surprise you, but he doesn’t seem overly worried. Apparently, Texas matches up well with us on paper. But that’s why they don’t play games on paper, motherfucker!

Moving along, another game that looked lopsided on paper, but didn’t play out like so, was our basketball team’s first test of the season against scandalous Memphis. Played on the ugliest court design in this new season with an equally shitty TV camera angle, our Hawks were predictably sloppy and stupid. I tried all weekend to tell anyone who would listen to not expect much for a while. Self is well aware of the talent and potential on this team and he doesn’t care one bit about how bad they look now if it helps him improve the team later on. We’ve seen this year in and year out (with the exception of 2007-08, because that team was ready) and despite all of the hype and the #1 ranking, this team is still largely young, inexperienced and not at all ready. We don’t have good ball movement. We don’t play good defense and despite our sizable rebounding advantage, only Cole and Markieff seem to get that yet. This is not a cause for concern, but rather, to be expected (for a while).

If you’re just dying for a concern, I’ll give you Tyshawn Taylor. His shooting touch hasn’t improved at all and he’s still out of control damn near all the time. At times, this leads to steals (2) and assists (5), but just as often it leads to turnovers (7). For those of us hoping that him leading the US to the Gold medal this summer was the catalyst in him making a leap, those expectations need to be tempered.

Oh, and since I just realized Neon posted a much better review of the game, be sure to check that out if you haven’t already. Our collaboration over here is second to none.

  1. More verbose != better. It seems that we were watching the same painful game.

  2. Played on the ugliest court design

What, you didn’t like the Hall of Fame Showcase brought to you by Bud Light and Reeses Peanut Butter cups? Looked like a fucking Nascar race out there.

  3. Bob Saget was on the Johnny Dare show this morning so I already had the Full House theme in my head. Seeing this picture everytime I come to the site isn’t helping any.
