From now on this site, well by me, I will refer to Bill Self as BFS. This is just a quick postgame post to recognize how great his decision was to switch to a triangle and 2. I mentioned how I wanted to see it against Baylor, with Tweety and Lace going off, but we didn’t really need it to win. Against KSU, we did.
His decision to switch to it late against KSU probably won us the game. The real beauty of the design was the switching of the point in the triangle based off on-ball screens. So simple, yet so ingenious, it really made the defense click. A defensive switch gave KSU something else to think about and the timing was perfect.
Does a Roy coached team win that sort of game? I think not. We are safe in the hands of BFS. Lovefest over, for now.

I remember seeing those switches most of the game. Seems we had been well coached to guard against the screen with their good shooters. But was also happy to see the zone defense. I was thinking it was probably more related to having 2 bigs with 4 fouls guarding the paint.

JMR – Anytime you’re in a triangle and 2, you’re in it to shut down the 2 guys, but protecting our bigs in foul trouble was a nice added benefit.
Ginger – Good call on the switch. We are indeed in good hands. Very fun win. Now if we could just get Xavier and Tyshawn to take care of the damn ball.

[...] Speaking of guard play, Kansas was so enamored with the play of KSU’s guards that they decided to run some triangle and two to try to stem the Wildcat tide. I’m not sure Bill Self had absolute conviction in rolling this defense out tonight, but a coach has to do what a coach has to do based on the opponent. I’m guessing Self feels the need to take a long shower after capitulating to the KSU guards. Of course, this has earned him respect and a new nickname from the Kings of Oread. [...]

That was a very impressive win, in the most hostile environment you all will go up against all season.. Watching Cole play the entire end of the game and the entire overtime without committing a foul, was just absolutely amazing. The guy is a freaking stud.
Collins is a freak of nature and as a Texas guy, I have to say I’m extremely jealous of the fact you have a guy that just flat out wills your team no matter what is going on. He can get you a bucket at the most crucial times of the game.
On a neutral court when you all are playing your best, Kentucky or any team for that matter can beat you guys…

Travis, I’m assuming you meant to say that on a neutral court when we’re playing our best, NOT EVEN Kentucky or any team can beat us.
If so, I agree.
